What is Call forwarding?
Call forwarding or call diverting is a common feature that most telephone networks support. This feature allows an incoming call to be redirected to other telephone. This network feature allows the user to select one of the following criteria for call redirection:
- Unconditional call forwarding:
- All calls
- Conditional call forwarding:
- If busy
- If no reply / answer
- If not reachable
How does call forwarding work?
Mobile phone user enables a specific type of call forwarding by dialing a operator specific code. For example, T-mobile in US has the code “**21*1234567890#” to enable “unconditional call forwarding” to another phone whose number is 1234567890
When someone calls the user and if the user had enabled one of the call forwarding types, network will re-direct the phone call to the specified number.
How call forwarding could help you?
Call forwarding feature increases your availability to the caller. The caller does not need to remember multiple phone numbers to reach you.
I am already using the call forwarding feature which is already available in my phone. Why do I need M-Receptionist application for my mobile phone?
With the in-built call forwarding program you need your phone to activate the call forwarding. M-Receptionist application allows you to activate the call forwarding even if you don’t have the have phone physically with you. In most cases you would want to activate the call forwarding only when you do not have your phone with you. For example, you have left your phone at home and you realize that when you are in office. Now, How do you activate the call forwarding (to your office phone)? If your mobile phone had M-Receptionist application installed, it is easy to activate call forwarding remotely by sending an SMS.
I am already using the call forwarding feature and I have activated the call forwarding “if no reply / answer”. Why do I need M-Receptionist application for my mobile phone?
This would work well as long as you are available in the forwarded phone number. With the M-Receptionist you can change the forwarded number whenever it is needed, even when you don’t have the phone physically with you. This would not be possible without the M-Receptionist application.
How does M-Receptionist work?
M-Receptionist is controlled by SMS. When you send an SMS from any other phone to your phone, M-Receptionist processes the SMS and acts on it if required. To activate / deactivate the call forwarding you would need to send an SMS from any mobile phone to your phone with specific contents. You can also get the call log through SMS.
Can anyone control my mobile phone?
At the time of M-Receptionist setup, user sets a PIN to access the services provided by this application. M-Receptionist acts on the SMSs with the valid PIN. Please refer M-Receptionist page for more information.
Does M-Receptionist delete SMSs?
No. M-Receptionist just inspects the contents to check whether it needs to do any action. Even if it takes any action (activate / deactivate call forwarding) it does not delete the SMS.
Does M-Receptionist consume more battery power?
No.
What should I do if I forget the format of the SMS to activate / deactivate call forwarding?
When you send help SMS with the valid PIN, M-Receptionist replies to you with the SMS which has the formats of SMSs.
What should I do if I forget the PIN?
Without the valid PIN you can not activate / deactivate call forwarding remotely. You need have the phone to see the PIN or modify the PIN.
I am using M-Receptionist application. I had activated the call forwarding using the this application. Can I deactivate the call forwarding directly using the phone directly?
